The New Market West mixed-use development will create a new hub of activity in an underserved neighborhood of West Philadelphia, including retail space, 68,000 square feet of office space, early childhood education, health services, and a community room available for events. An adjoining residential tower on the same parcel will provide 41 units of
affordable housing. The landscape design for the site includes an active promenade along Market Street, incorporating rain gardens, raised planters, and water features. An internal courtyard over structure offers a more intimate, garden-like setting for residents and office tenants — and will be available for formal receptions hosted at the community room. A 12,000 square foot green roof terrace at the fifth floor creates a signature space for the New Market West development that will attract a broader audience to the area. It will be available for private events, incorporating plazas, shade structures and lawns, and providing sweeping views over West Philadelphia toward Center City to the east and Cobbs Creek Park to the west.
Roofmeadow collaborated closely with Kitchen Associates and Eustace Engineering to integrate stormwater management into the landscape architecture; stormwater strategies include green roofs, blue roofs, stormwater planters, and rain gardens. The project aims for LEED certification, with a construction start planned for 2018.
