WGBH, a public radio station based in Boston, has a Roofmeadow green roof surrounding its solar panel array. Roofmeadow was responsible for the engineering design, assembly selection, shop drawings, specifications and installation supervision of the green roof. The green roof will optimize the efficiency of the adjacent 100kW photovoltaic array by maintaining cooler air on the roof.
Established entirely from Sedum cuttings, the un-irrigated green roof serves as a 10’ perimeter surrounding the array. The green roof and the pv array are separated by a paved deck that is elegantly and cleanly incorporated into the landscaped area. The vegetation functions in tandem with the pv array and the walkway.
Stormwater is managed by the green roof and a holding tank which captures rainwater runoff from the building.
The LEED certified building integrates other sustainable construction features including construction from recycled steel, motion-sensitive office lighting, and UV-filtering glass and motorized sunshades.
