Kin Residence First Phase Roofmeadow® Type I: Flower Carpet Irrigation: None Size: 2,000 square feet Client: David & Vielke Kin Location: Wrightsville, PA Roofscapes, Inc. Contractor: David Kin Architect: Down to Earth Status: Phase I: completed in 2000 Phase II: projected completion in 2004 Distinguishing Features: This unique project uses Ôsustainable' materials to create a building that is as much a piece of art as it is home for the Kins. This 8,000 square foot building features straw bale and cob (structural earth) wall construction. Massive rough-hewn columns and rafters support approximately equal areas of green roof and slate. The gracious interior features sculpted contours in a southwestern motif. The green roofs consist of a 2.5-inch to 3.0-inch thick un-irrigated Type I: Flower Carpet assembly. All roof areas are pitched. The areas covered with the green roof have pitches ranging up to 20 percent. Locally, the eaves are designed to allow runoff from the green roof to form a curtain. The first phase of the project was completed in 2000 and is well-established. The second phase is planned for completion in 2004.
