Sanitation District No. 1 Office Roofmeadow® Type III: Savannah Irrigation: none Client: Sanitation District No. 1 Location: Ft. Wright, KY Roofscapes Contractor: Enviroscape Size: 5,200 square feet Architect: Humpert Wolnitzek Architects Landscape Architects: Human Nature Status: Completed in 2003 Distinguishing Features: This green roof is designed to accommodate access by the staff of the Sanitation District through two doors that open onto a paved walkway. The green roof slopes gently down and away from the elevated walkway. Load constraints dictated that the walkway be built on a foundation of lightweight polystyrene foam panels. Other Roofmeadow® installations that have used a similar approach are the Peggy Notebaert Museum and Chicago City Hall. The unirrigated 4-inch thick green roof profile is a Type III: Savannah assembly. The plant cover, established from plugs, consists of varieties of Sedum, Allium, and Bouteloua. This project was planned with the objective of reducing rainfall runoff and improving water quality, and is being monitored by the Sanitation District to demonstrate these benefits.
