Each green roof is unique. Notwithstanding similar designs, many variables, including conditions in the field, clearly indicate that no one green roof specification or design is sufficient to guarantee a successful project. Further, few installers in the United States have substantial green roof experience, contributing to complications and increased costs. Like a Japanese rock garden or any other specialized landscape product, a green roof project is most successful when implemented as a design/build contract with an experienced green roof team. Our design/build clients have consistently benefited from lower costs and more efficient installations.

Roofscapes, Inc. design/build installations typically cost about 20% less than arrangements in which design and installation are packaged and bid separately. Additionally, if the green roof area is sizable and the design is not complex, then we simply will include a fee for design support in the installation price; no separate design consulting package is required. Moreover, design/build engagements permit easy integration of green roof design changes without costly change orders. A Roofscapes, Inc. design/build package includes

During the design phase, drawings and documents prepared by Roofscapes, Inc. address all issues involving plant selection, water management (including water conservation), maintenance requirements, and system weight in an effort to tailor the vegetated roof to climactic constraints and the client’s needs. Furthermore, Roofscapes, Inc.’s versatile designs can accommodate unique architectural features, including those involving steep pitches.

Our experience has demonstrated that the most efficient designs for the vast majority of American green roofs can be derived from five basic green roof types. Roofscapes, Inc. has developed a Roofmeadow® green roof that satisfies each type, and these can be mixed and modified to meet the project’s goals. We have long-standing relationships with several waterproofing companies, and our Roofmeadow® systems can accommodate most waterproofing systems and materials. Roofscapes, Inc. can help you select the waterproofing material and will coordinate with the waterproofing manufacturer; exchange and review details, and finalize installation logistics. We will be responsible for the integration of the waterproofing and green roof elements of the project.
