Green Roof Stormwater Performance Simulation

Among the various Low Impact Development (LID) stormwater measures, green roofs alone are not characterized by standardized performance requirements. Yet, performance requirements for green roofs are entirely feasible and available today.

Our Stormwater Performance Simulation model requires rainfall information on 5-minute intervals and information about seasonal potential evapotranspiration (PET) rates.  The simulation is typically run for a 12-month climatic cycle. The Stormwater Performance Simulation provides the peak rate attenuation for every storm in the rainfall record as well predictions of annual and seasonal runoff reductions.  By intercalating artificial design storms, we also can use the data from the simulation to demonstrate how the green roof can contribute to the site-wide stormwater management.

Using this model, Roofscapes, Inc. can provide effective rational runoff coefficients and NRCS curve numbers for projects constructed in temperate areas of the United States.
